The Fifth Suit

The Fifth Suit was developed for the 2011 48 Hour Game Making Challenge. This year’s challenge centred around the the 3 words Badger, Key and Suit. We were given the award of overall winner by a panel of IGDA judges.
In the game players control a badger with a card suit on its back, the goal for each player is to gather all their cards in the level by digging through the blocks to create a path. Once a player has collected all their cards a key of their suit will appear that they can use to unlock one of the gates along the top wall of the level. The game plays like adversarial musical chairs as there is always one less gate than players, so 1 person always misses out.
However, losing players will come back as ghosts whose sole job to steal other player’s cards and right the wrongs committed against them. The ultimate winner will find the elusive Fifth Suit.
The game was developed in XNA and can be downloaded for PC here.
It is a multiplayer game for 4 players and it works best with Xbox 360 controllers. Although keyboard controls have been implemented for the public release.
